Hastert ordered to report to prison next month
Former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) on Thursday was ordered by a federal judge to report to prison on June 22 to serve his 15-month sentence for bank violations.
The date came in a one-sentence order from U.S. District Court Judge Thomas M. Durkin that did not specify which prison Hastert will be placed in, according to multiple reports.
{mosads}Durkin branded Hastert, 74, a “serial child molester” last month in announcing the former House Speaker’s sentence in a hush case that revealed allegations of decades-old sexual abuse.
Hastert was also ordered to pay a $250,000 fine and undergo 2 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to one count of structuring bank transactions to pay an accuser in a way as to avoid raising flags.
During his sentencing, Hastert admitted to having “mistreated” several former student athletes, saying, “What I did was wrong, and I regret it.”
