Gates: Clinton showed ‘error in judgment’ on server

Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Thursday questioned Hillary Clinton’s “judgment” in using a private email server while secretary of State.

“I don’t know what originally prompted her to think that was a good idea,” Gates told Yahoo News when asked whether the Democratic presidential front-runner had made a “major error in judgment” or a “relatively small mistake.”

{mosads}”Using an offline server I think was an error in judgment,” he added later.

Clinton has sought to move beyond the issue, while presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has attacked her for “bad judgment.”

“I never used email for official business either as CIA director or secretary of Defense,” Gates, who left the Obama administration in 2011, said Thursday. He added he hasn’t spoken with Clinton since he left the administration.

“I was afraid somebody would send me an email saying, ‘If I don’t hear back from you in two or three hours I’m going to go do X,’ and I’d be in a five-hour hearing on the Hill; I’d come back and find some government overthrown or something,” he added with a chuckle.
