North Korea calls Obama’s Hiroshima trip ‘childish’

North Korea is lashing out at President Obama for his upcoming visit to Hiroshima, Japan, calling it a “childish political calculation.”

The state-run Korean Central News Agency said called Obama a “nuclear war lunatic” hell-bent on modernizing the U.S. nuclear arsenal, according to The Associated Press.

{mosads}The agency also accused Japan of using Obama’s trip to obscure its atrocities during World War II and portray itself as a victim.

Obama on Friday will become the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima, the site of the world’s first atomic bombing.

The White House said the trip aims “to highlight his continued commitment to pursuing the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons.”

“In making this visit, the president will shine a spotlight on the tremendous and devastating human toll of war,” Ben Rhodes, Obama’s deputy national security adviser, said.

“The president’s time in Hiroshima also will reaffirm America’s longstanding commitment — and the president’s personal commitment — to pursue the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons,” he added.

A group of Hiroshima bombing survivors demanded earlier this month that Obama apologize for America’s use of atomic weapons in World War II.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest has said the president has no plans to apologize, adding that he would “not revisit the decision to use the atomic bomb.”

The U.S. dropped a nuclear warhead on Hiroshima in August 1945. The blast killed about 140,000 people.
