Orlando set to dominate Sunday talk shows
Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump had two very different responses last week to the deadliest mass shooting in the country’s history, and discussions of terrorism and gun violence are sure to dominate this week’s Sunday talk shows.
{mosads}Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, reiterated his call to ban Muslims from entering the country and expanded the scope of the proposal to include people from countries that have a history of terrorism against the U.S. He even suggested that President Obama sympathizes with terror groups, further alienating Republican lawmakers whom he had once vowed to unify.
Clinton, meanwhile, called for unity and urged Congress to take action to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists.
The Orlando attack will be the focus of the Sunday shows as Attorney General Loretta Lynch makes five appearances to discuss the administration’s response to the terror attack.
Here’s the full lineup:
ABC’s “This Week”: Trump discusses his response to the massacre in Orlando. Lynch and House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) also talk about the aftermath of the mass shooting.
CBS’s “Face the Nation”: Lynch and Trump both make appearances. Wayne LaPierre, vice president of the National Rifle Association, will discuss gun rights. And Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) will talk about her bill to keep guns out of the hands of people on the government’s no-fly list.
CNN’s “State of the Union”: Lynch reappears. Trump campaign aide Paul Manafort will talk about his candidate’s response to Orlando. Senate Homeland Security Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) will discuss the latest on the mass shooting.
“Fox News Sunday”: Lynch makes an appearance. Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s campaign manager, will talk about his candidate’s strategy for weathering Clinton’s attacks.
NBC’s “Meet the Press”: House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) gives his only interview of the day. Lynch completes her rounds.
