Poll: Voters on both sides say opposing party makes them afraid
Democrats and Republicans now view each other more negatively than at any point in nearly a quarter-century, a new poll found.
{mosads}Fifty-five percent of Democrats say the GOP makes them feel “afraid,” while 49 percent of Republicans say the same about Democrats, according to the Pew survey.
Similarly, 58 percent of Democrats say they are “frustrated” by Republicans and 47 percent say they are “angry” at the GOP.
And 57 percent of Republicans are “frustrated” by Democrats, while 46 percent are “angry” at them.
Seventy percent of Democrats said Republicans are “closed-minded,” 35 percent said they are “immoral” and 42 percent called them “dishonest.”
Meanwhile, 52 percent of Republicans called Dems “closed-minded,” 47 percent said “immoral” and 45 percent said “dishonest.”
Half of Republicans find dealing with Democrats “stressful and frustrating,” while 46 percent of Democrats feel the same about the GOP.
Pew conducted its survey of 4,385 adults nationwide via mail and online interviews from March 2-28 and April 5-May 2. The full sample has a 2.3 percent margin of error.
