Kaine: ‘I do have a slightly goofy quality’

Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine admitted Friday that he has a “slightly goofy quality.”

Kaine took the ribbing over his speech Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention in stride, saying, “You’ll probably see a lot more of it from here to Nov. 8 and beyond.”

{mosads}”I mean, I guess I got to acknowledge I do have a slightly goofy quality,” Kaine said on CNN’s “New Day” when asked about tweets making light of his speech.

“Some find it endearing and some find it annoying. I can’t make myself do it or undo it, it’s just kind of who I am,” the Virginia senator added, flashing a smile.

Kaine said one of his sons sent him some of the tweets about his speech Wednesday night, and he and his wife laughed over them together.
Kaine, a harmonica player, closed out his CNN interview Friday morning by joking about his harmonica skills, saying, “I have six harmonics in my briefcase at all times.”

“I don’t have it right here because it’s too early for America to be jolted into a state of cognitive dissonance by my harmonica playing, but we’re going on a bus tour,” Kaine said.

“Just to tell the American public, if you’re never learned to play an instrument and you want to learn one, the harmonica — it’s OK to suck, in fact that’s how you make half the notes,” Kaine joked.

“OK, dad,” CNN’s Alisyn Camerota responded.
