Poll: More prefer Dem control of Congress
More people want Democrats to control Congress than Republicans, according to a new poll.
Forty-seven percent want both the House and Senate to be held by Democrats, says an NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey released Friday. Forty-three percent prefer continuing GOP control of Congress.
{mosads}Voters split on the issue in June’s edition of the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, with 46 percent picking each political party.
Democrats also had the lead in May, however, when they boasted a 4-point edge over their Republican counterparts.
Republicans now hold majorities in both chambers.
The battle for the Senate is razor tight this year, as Republicans are defending a number of seats in states that have voted for Democrats in recent presidential elections. Democrats would need to gain at least four seats and hold the White House to win back the Senate majority.
Republicans have a very strong chance of holding the House, where they have a huge majority.
NBC News/The Wall Street Journal conducted its latest sampling of 800 registered voters from July 31 to Aug. 3. It has a 3.5 percentage point margin of error.
