Poll: Majority wants medical info from presidents

Over half of Americans in a new poll say presidents should release medical information that may affect their leadership.

Fifty-one percent said a president should publicize any health issues affecting their service, according to the Gallup survey released Thursday.

{mosads}Forty-six percent think a president has the same right to privacy as any other citizen to keep their medical records secret.

Pollsters also found that 70 percent believe health is “very important” in selecting a candidate for the nation’s highest office.

Twenty-six percent ranked it “somewhat important,” while 3 percent called it “not too important,” and 1 percent “not at all important.”

Pollsters also found more Americans say Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is healthier than Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Seventy-five percent say Trump is “healthy enough to be president,” while 62 percent feel the same about Clinton.

Gallup questioned 1,033 adults from Sept. 14 to 18 and Sept. 16 to 17. Its poll has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.

The nominees’ health became a presidential campaign issue earlier this month when Clinton nearly collapsed while leaving a 9/11 memorial ceremony in New York City.

Clinton’s doctor then revealed she had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days before the incident.

Trump last week shared the results of his recent medical exam during a much-publicized appearance on “The Dr. Oz Show” in an effort to prove he is more transparent than Clinton.

Clinton, meanwhile, released in-depth medical information on the same day as the billionaire’s interview with television personality Mehmet Oz.
