Ethics chairman calls on Priebus to ‘stand up’ for the interests of the GOP

House Ethics Committee Chairman Charlie Dent (R-Pa.) on Sunday called on the Republican Party leaders to “stand up” for the interests of the GOP in light of Donald Trump’s lewd statements about women.

{mosads}”Look, will Donald Trump withdraw from the race? No. Should he? Yes. So I feel that we have to do something here. We have a Republican Party. We have to look out for what’s in the best interest of the Republican Party, the whole party,” he said in an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.”

He then urged Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus to “do what’s in the best interest of the entire party.”

“But, again, as a party leader, I think at times you have to stand up and do some pretty difficult things, and this may be one of them right now. And the chairman, you really must stand up and do what’s in the best interest of the entire party.”

“But, you know, this isn’t just about the party; it’s about the country. I’m disturbed not just by all these incendiary comments, but also the policy issues from Russia to NATO comments, and on it goes,” Dent added.
