Colo. training poll workers on how to handle shootings
Colorado election officials are training poll workers in two cities on how to respond to an active shooter at the voting booths, The Guardian reported.
{mosads}Officials said workers in Denver and Aurora are getting the extra training. Colorado has seen some of the worst shootings in American history, including the 2012 movie theater attack and the shooting at Columbine.
“This is something we pay a lot of attention to in Colorado, because of the terrible experiences that we’ve had,” Matt Crane, the county clerk who oversees elections in Arapahoe County, told The Guardian. “We want to make sure we’re as prepared as possible.”
Crane said it’s better to be prepared, especially in an election year with particularly heated rhetoric.
Poll workers are normally prepped on how to deal with fires, power outages, and other unforeseen problems.
In Denver, workers will complete an online training module. And in Arapahoe County, home of Aurora, workers will be trained in person by the sheriff’s department.
