Pence: We ‘commend’ FBI for following through on their word
Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence on Sunday praised the FBI after Director James Comey sent a letter to lawmakers saying the bureau found new emails “pertinent” to its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private server.
{mosads}”We commend the director of the FBI and the FBI for following through on their word before the Congress,” Pence, the governor of Indiana, said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“That if there was new pertinent information, sufficient to reopen this investigation, that they would inform Congress of that fact and they would move forward.”
Comey announced in July he would not recommend criminal charges over Clinton’s use of a private email server while she served as secretary of State.
On Friday, he sent a letter to Congress saying that the bureau discovered emails “pertinent” to the investigation and would be reviewing them.
Pence said the decision by the FBI in July was “incomprehensible to millions of Americans.”
The investigation into the Democratic presidential nominee’s private server is “clearly a very serious matter,” he said.
“And we respect the institution of the FBI,” Pence said during the interview.
“And are confident that they’ll handle this in a professional and a timely way.”
