Carson: I’ll aid Trump on ObamaCare replacement
Ben Carson says he will lend a hand to President-elect Donald Trump constructing a substitute for ObamaCare.
“I think the replacement must obviously come first and it must be something that is very appealing and easy to understand,” he told Politico Wednesday. “And then, only then, would you dismantle what’s in place.”
{mosads}Carson declined to say whether he was on tap for a Cabinet role such as secretary of health and human services, or simply a broader advisory role.
Trump campaigned on replacing ObamaCare with a simpler, more affordable healthcare plan with less government regulation.
A Republican-led Congress gives Trump and the GOP’s rank-and-file members the best chance of altering the legislation since its passage in 2010.
Carson memorably entered the public consciousness by confronting President Obama over his healthcare law during the 2013 National Prayer breakfast.
The former doctor ultimately entered this year’s GOP presidential primary, only to suspend his bid in March and endorse Trump instead.
Carson on Wednesday predicted Trump would win over critics once they witnessed his leadership on issues like ObamaCare.
“I think actually a lot of people who have tried to demonize him will be quite shocked when they see who he really is. He’ll be a very easy person to work with as long as you’re reasonable, as long as you’re fair.”
