Pope Francis on Saturday issued a call for unity and inclusion, days after President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.
{mosads}The Pope spoke about the need for Christians to include others “without classifying them on the basis of social condition, language, race, culture, religion,” the Associated Press reported.
Trump’s Tuesday victory over Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton sparks protests around the United States, with demonstrators speaking out against the President-elect’s rhetoric on women and minorities.
“Mercy is that way of acting, that style, with which we try to include others in our life, avoiding closing up into ourselves and into our selfish securities,” the Pope added.
Francis did not appear to make direct reference to Trump. His plea comes amid a surge in support for anti-immigration politicians in European countries as well.
