President-elect Donald Trump has named former Federal Election Commission Chairman Don McGahn as his White House Counsel.
{mosads}Trump’s transition team announced the pick Friday, along with the selection of Republican foreign policy veteran KT McFarland as deputy national security advisor.
“Don has a brilliant legal mind, excellent character and a deep understanding of constitutional law,” Trump said in a statement.
“He will play a critical role in our administration, and I am grateful that he is willing to serve our country at such a high-level capacity.”
McFarland and McGahn are both highly regarded among GOP leaders and their selections indicate that Trump’s chief of staff, Reince Priebus, has been an influenced the makeup of the White House staff.
After leaving the FEC, McGahn joined the law firm Jones Day, where he represented lawmakers and political candidates.
The longtime D.C. insider also served as general counsel for the Trump campaign.
According to his bio on the Jones Day website, McGahn also served in that role for the National Republican Congressional Committee for nearly 10 years.
