Former President George H.W. Bush is in stable condition after being moved to an intensive care unit and undergoing a procedure, his spokesman said in a statement Wednesday.
Bush, who is 92, was moved to the ICU at Houston Methodist Hospital, where he was admitted over the weekend, to “address an acute respiratory problem stemming from pneumonia.”
“Doctors performed a procedure to protect and clear his airway that required sedation,” spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement.

Bush’s wife, Barbara Bush, was also admitted to the hospital Wednesday morning “as a precaution after experiencing fatigue and coughing,” the spokesman said.
George H.W. Bush and his wife will not be attending President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration later this week due to health reasons.
The former president wrote in a letter to the president-elect that his doctor told him if he sat outside in January it would likely put him “six feet under.”
