Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) tweeted a message of solidarity with protesters marching in Washington on Saturday, calling for support for women’s reproductive rights.

Sanders, a progressive firebrand who nearly won the Democratic presidential nomination last year, has been an outspoken advocate for abortion rights. His comments came a day after President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to march through Washington on Saturday in support of women’s rights. Trump has taken numerous positions on abortion rights in the past, but during his 2016 presidential bid, the president ultimately announced that he was pro-life, at one point saying that “there has to be some form of punishment” for undergoing an abortion.
