Poll: Democrats close the gap on national security
Democrats have closed the gap on Republicans on national security for the first time, according to Democracy Corps’ latest poll on the issue.
Democracy Corps, a Democratic polling firm, found that for the “Democrats are at full parity on perceptions of which party would best manage national security” for the first time in the firm’s research.
The group attributes the change to President Obama’s job performance on the issue. Two thirds of respondents in the poll approve of Obama on national security, which is six points higher than his overall approval rating.
The survey also found that a majority of voters reject former Vice President Dick Cheney’s assertion that Obama’s policies are making the country less safe.
There was a margin of error of about +/- 3.5 percent in the poll.
