I get these calls at least once every week. “This is the final warning that you’re car warranty has expired,” the robo-caller says, or something to that effect.
It doesn’t seem to matter that I don’t own a car. My warranty on it is expiring, and I absolutely must call back to resolve this urgent issue.
But the spammers made a mistake when they dialed Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). From the Daily News:
The cell phone in question belonged to Sen. Chuck Schumer and the call interrupted an important health-care reform briefing in Washington, D.C.
Schumer, a driving force behind the original Do Not Call List that banned such calls, is now on the warpath to hang up on the con men for good.
“These are scam artists,” Schumer said. “The Federal Trade Commission needs to seek these people out and shut them down.”
