Conway accuses media of ‘information underload’
President Trump’s senior adviser Kellyanne Conway claimed Saturday evening that news media are responsible for “information underload,” arguing that positive elements of his administration are being ignored.
“He’s creating jobs, he’s doing all these things that don’t get covered,” Conway said during an appearance on Fox News. “They don’t get covered on the alter of, what you said, the ‘R’ word.”
“I still don’t know what Russia has done,” host Jeanine Pirro responded.
{mosads}Trump, who has faced approval ratings below 40 percent in the early months of his administration, has been dogged by continued questions about his associates’ ties to Russia and Moscow’s attempts to interfere in the election — the subject of a pair of congressional investigations and an FBI probe.
An Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey released Saturday found that a majority of Americans, 52 percent, favor independent investigations into Trump’s potential ties to Russia and Russia’s attempt to meddle in the election, while about a quarter, 23 percent, are opposed.
Conway — who had been a near constant presence on networks in the early weeks of Trump’s administration, often garnering attention for controversial remarks panned by political observers — argued that the president is taking action that is being ignored by the press.
“The mainstream media are making Americans suffer through information underload,” she said.
Conway ticked through a list of “all the great things the president is doing,” mentioning jobs, trade, a newly formed commission to tackle opioid abuse and the recent push for government innovation.
“It’s not just unfair coverage. That’s one thing,” she said. “It’s everything that doesn’t get covered. It’s the incomplete coverage.”
Conway knocked “the Russian obsession, these conclusions in search of evidence,” arguing that television networks have fixated on the topic in their on-screen news banners.
“I mean they say the same thing. Show after show, day after day,” she said.
