Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) on Tuesday urged President Trump to start acting like the “father of America,” but said voters should “give him a chance” as his presidency nears the end of its first 100 days.
“When you’re running a big job like that, you have to not only use your head and your heart, and they have to work together,” Kasich said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “And what he needs to know is he’s the father of America, and that carries a heavy responsibility.”
Kasich, who fought bitterly with Trump for the Republican presidential nomination last year, has been a vocal critic of the real estate mogul since before he was elected. Even after Trump formally secured the GOP nomination in July, Kasich refused to endorse him, let alone vote for him in the November election.

But Kasich has visited the Trump White House and shown a willingness to work with him on a number of issues, particularly efforts to lower prescription drug prices.
“He’s in less than a hundred days. Give the guy a chance, is my view,” he said Tuesday. “Look, I didn’t endorse him, I didn’t go to the convention. I want him to be successful. I’m going to give him a chance.”
The Ohio governor, who is very popular in his home state, is considered a potential challenger to Trump if he seeks reelection in 2020. In a CNN town hall on Monday, Kasich said he would not rule out another presidential bid, but said it was “unlikely” that he would run for public office again.
