Jindal to write book

Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-La.) has reached a deal with Regnery Publishers to write a book about his life and political views. Jindal denies that the book is part of a plan to run for President, but that won’t stop many from interpreting it that way.

Regnery is a conservative publisher, releasing books by Newt Gingrich and Ann Coulter, among others. And the way Jindal describes the project, it certainly sounds like the mix of autobiography and vague policy ideas that presidential candidates often publish to introduce themselves to voters. Jindal told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that he’ll share the “lessons I’ve learned throughout my life,” adding that he “just want[s] to offer my ideas and my experiences to the conversation.”

But Jindal says the book has nothing to do with a 2012 campaign for President. “I’d be writing this book even if I never ran for anything again,” he said.

Peter Schweizer will co-author the book. Schweizer’s past work includes “Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrsisy,” and most recently, the interestingly titled polemic “Makers and Takers: Why conservatives work harder, feel happier, have closer families, take fewer drugs, give more generously, value honesty more, are less materialistic and….”

Jindal was surprisingly blunt about his reasons for bringing on Schweizer. “One of the reasons I’m doing this with a co-author is to make sure there’s somebody else doing a lot of the heavy lifting,” Jindal told the Times-Picayune. “This isn’t something that will take a lot of my time.”

I’m not sure you’re supposed to admit that…
