Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) on Thursday pardoned a fourth-grader after he admitted to stealing a pen and a hazelnut during a school trip to the state capitol last month.

Brown posted on her Facebook page a photo of a letter the boy sent her admitting to the deed, along with the returned pen and a dollar bill.

{mosads}”Dear Governor Brown,” the letter reads. “My class visited the capitol on April 19. While we were there I took a hazelnut and pen from the capitol building. These things were not mine and it was wrong for me to take them I’m very sorry. I hope you and the people of Oregon can forgive me.”

In a response on Facebook, Brown formally pardons the child and says that she is sending back a pen as a “memento of your visit at the Capitol.”
