West Wing to empty out for August construction

Construction in the West Wing will require President Trump and his staff to work elsewhere temporarily in August, RealClearPolitics reported Tuesday.

The construction will likely overlap with a Trump vacation, which has not been officially announced.

Aides are expected to temporarily work off-site in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next door. The Brady Press Briefing Room and workspace used by the White House press corps won’t be affected by the construction. 

{mosads}The General Service Administration and its contractors typically take advantage of presidents’ vacations in August to race through construction and maintenance at the White House, the report said.

A contractor described the work as “HVAC infrastructure … to keep the West Wing operational in the case of major utility failure(s).”

The General Service Administration’s work schedule was planned before the ObamaCare repeal battle, which will likely delay or postpone the Senate’s August recess.

Last week, Trump called for Senate Republicans to stay in D.C. until an ObamaCare repeal is complete. Although the Senate has delayed its scheduled recess, House members are planning to leave Washington at the end of the week.

White House renovation projects began during the George W. Bush administration and continued after President Barack Obama moved in.
