Michelle Obama, Oprah to honor civil rights leader Thurs.
First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey will be among the guests honoring civil rights pioneer Dr. Dorothy Height on Thursday.
Obama and Winfrey will join several members of the Navy to honor Height. Height, a friend of Eleanor Roosevelt, was the only female of the “Big 6” civil rights acctivists that included Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
She is also credited for her work to desegregate the Pentagon work force.
The annual “Uncommon Height Gala” will take place Thursday at the Washington Hilton.
