Former Roberts staffer stole from PAC
A former employee of Sen. Pat Roberts pleaded guilty to stealing from the Kansas Republicans political action committee.
The Associated Press reports that Melissa Thomas pleaded guilty to one count of forgery for singing check totaling $17,825 in 2007. The money came from Roberts’s Preserving America’s Tradition PAC.
Thomas did not work directly for the PAC. She worked for Winfrey and Co., a financial consultancy based in Alexandria, Va. that managed the PAC’s bank account.
The AP reports that Thomas could face 10 years in prison for the crime but will likely serve a less severe sentence.
