Website highlights GOP Sens. who have spoken against judicial filibusters
As more and more websites pop up from conservative groups criticizing Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court, a few sites have also surfaced supporting her.
One of the newer ones with an interesting angle is sponsored by Media Matters, the left leaning media watchdog that now has a separate political action arm. The site is named “DemocracyorHypocrisy.org” and seeks to solely point out Senate Republicans who have previously spoken out against filibusters for judicial nominees. And, if you visit the site you’ll see that there have been quite a few of them…and they are on video.
Of course, it looks unlikely that Senate Republicans, on their own, will be able to successfully block – or filibuster – Sotomayor’s nomination. They don’t have the numbers unless some centrist Democrats join their ranks. But this stuff is worth keeping in mind if a threat of a filibuster arises again and for future judicial nominations.
