America to be declared ‘center-left nation’ Wednesday

In advance of the “America’s Future Now” progressive convention in D.C. next week, organizers are set to hold a conference call tomorrow in which they’ll declare the U.S. to officially be a “center-left nation.”

The organizers — Rock the Vote executive director Heather Smith, Women’s Voices. Women Votes president Page Gardner, Campaign for America’s Future co-director Robert Borosage, Media Matters for America president Eric Burns — will make the announcement early Wednesday afternoon in conjunction with the release of a new report that will reportedly “show that with conservatives more and more isolated, majorities of Americans hold progressive positions on a broad range of controversial issues and key constituencies that favor progressives are growing larger.”

Advertised attendees at the June 1-3 conference include Howard Dean, Sens. Tom Harkin, Jeff Merkley and Sherrod Brown, and Reps.Barney Frank, Barbara Lee, Jared Polis, Donna Edwards, Keith Ellison, Jan Schakowsky and Raul Grijalva. Gov. Ed Rendell is listed on the schedule as an invited speaker.

Barack Obama has spoken at the campaign’s previous Take Back America events, like this closing address from 2006:
