Arpaio to speak at Trump golf club
Joe Arpaio, the controversial former sheriff Maricopa County, Ariz., is set to stump for a GOP congressional candidate at President Trump’s Los Angeles golf club on Thursday.
Arpaio announced on Twitter this week that he would take the stage at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., in support of Omar Navarro, a Republican hoping to unseat Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), one of Trump’s most vocal critics in Congress.
Im guest speaker this Thurs. @TrumpGolfLA for @RealOmarNavarro who is running against Maxine Waters. See you there.

Navarro challenged Waters before, in 2016, but lost to the long-serving incumbent by more than 100,000 votes.

According to the Daily Breeze newspaper in Torrance, Calif., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will deploy additional law enforcement personnel around the golf club for the speech.
Arpaio, who served as Maricopa County sheriff in Arizona for more than two decades before he lost his reelection bid last year, was convicted earlier this year of criminal contempt for ignoring a judge’s order to halt his office’s racial profiling practices.
Trump pardoned Arpaio, the first of his presidency, in August.
