Twitter said in a statement posted on the platform that Trump’s account was “inadvertently deactivated” by a Twitter employee and was restored after 11 minutes.
“Earlier today @realdonaldtrump’s account was inadvertently deactivated due to human error by a Twitter employee. The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored. We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again,” it said.
The brief disappearance of Trump’s account quickly went viral on social media.
Trump had previously used his personal Twitter account earlier Thursday to call for the suspect in the New York City terror attack to face the death penalty, as well as backtracking from his support for sending the suspect to the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.
