O’Reilly: Trump should ‘stop tweeting about non-governmental issues for a while’

Conservative commentator Bill O’Reilly said on Thursday that President Trump should stop tweeting about “non-governmental issues” for a while after the president came under scrutiny for retweeting an anti-Muslim group’s leader.

“It would behoove (Word of the Day) President Trump to stop tweeting about non-governmental issues for a while. Attacking specific media people, retweeting dubious material – now hurting the President because it diverts attention from his economic success & gives his enemies ammo,” the former Fox News host tweeted on Thursday.

O’Reilly’s comments come after Trump on Wednesday retweeted videos from Jayda Fransen, the deputy head of Britain First, an ultranationalist fringe group. The videos purportedly showed Muslims appearing to take part in violent acts.

Trump has since faced intense backlash on both sides of the pond for the tweets.

{mosads}British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Thursday that the U.K. would not refrain from pushing back on the U.S. over the issue.

“The fact that we work together does not mean that we’re afraid to say when we think the United States has got it wrong, and to be very clear with them. And I’m very clear that retweeting from Britain First was the wrong thing to do,” May said.

However, the White House defended Trump’s tweets.

“I’m not talking about the nature of the video,” press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Wednesday. “I think you’re focusing on the wrong thing. The threat is real and that is what the president is talking about.”
