An organization representing current and former FBI agents on Tuesday said it received more than $140,000 in donations to the group’s two charities, amid ongoing criticism directed at the agency by President Trump.
The FBI Agents Association tweeted on Tuesday that the charitable donations will go toward improving the lives of the children of deceased FBI agents.
“This month, more than 2,000 donors contributed over $140,000 to our two charitable funds. This money will send the children of deceased Agents to college and help FBI families in need,” the association tweeted.
The announcement comes several days after Benjamin Wittes, a journalist and friend of former FBI Director James Comey, tweeted that he donated $1,000 to the organization in retaliation for Trump’s Twitter attacks on FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

“The President is impugning the integrity of the FBI by attacking two honorable public servants: Jim Baker and Andy McCabe. I just donated $1,000 to the @FBIAgentsAssoc in their names. I urge others to give as well and tweet that you did so to #thanksFBI,” Wittes tweeted Saturday.
He was quickly joined by other critics of the president, including MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough.
“Following @benjaminwittes’ great advice, I just donated to the @FBIAgentsAssoc fund to aid families of agents facing unforeseen tragedies in the line of work,” the former Florida Republican lawmaker tweeted.
Trump attacked McCabe in a series of messages on Saturday over news the deputy director is potentially retiring in March.
“How can FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, the man in charge, along with leakin’ James Comey, of the Phony Hillary Clinton investigation (including her 33,000 illegally deleted emails) be given $700,000 for wife’s campaign by Clinton Puppets during investigation?” Trump tweeted.
“FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is racing the clock to retire with full benefits. 90 days to go?!!!” he said in another tweet.
