Women’s March organizers to launch voter registration tour
The organizers of the Women’s March will mark its one-year anniversary by launching a voter registration tour.
Organizers are holding a “Power to the Polls” event in Las Vegas on Jan. 21, the Women’s March website says.
According to the site, the event in Las Vegas will “kick-off a national voter registration and mobilization tour.”

It will target “swing states to register new voters, engage impacted communities, harness our collective energy to advocate for policies and candidates that reflect our values and collaborate with our partners to elect more women and progressives candidates to office,” the site says.
Tamika Mallory — one of the co-chairs of last year’s march and the co-president of the Women’s March board — said organizers thought just having another march in Washington, D.C. “would be purely symbolic.”
“And it would not necessarily reach the goals of turning a historic moment into a movement that would impact the communities that we seek to engage and help to transform,” she told USA Today.
“We thought that Power to the Polls was an important next step that would give us the opportunity to work on a grass-roots level with partners and individuals who are committed for the long haul.”
She said she thinks people are still “very outraged” as they see President Trump’s policies take effect.
“Over the last year we’ve been able to see how some of the rhetoric is turning into actual policies and procedures that impact communities that have already been struggling,” she said.
