Alaska earthquake prompts tsunami warning
Tsunami warnings for Alaska and the west coasts of the U.S. and Canada were canceled Tuesday after the National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, said analysis had “better defined the threat.”
The tsunami warning was issued following a magnitude 7.9 earthquake south of Kodiak, Alaska, shortly after midnight.

Small tsunami waves of less than 1 foot were reported in Alaska, the center said.
Despite the canceled tsunami warnings, officials in San Francisco warned residents to avoid coastlines for 12 hours.
