The roommate of the NFL player who was killed Sunday by an immigrant in the country illegally who police accuse of driving while intoxicated says his friend would not want his death politicized.

President Trump on Monday called for a crackdown on immigration in response to the news of Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson’s death.

In an interview posted Tuesday by CBS News, Chad Bouchez said Jackson would “absolutely not” want his death politicized.

{mosads}”He would not want that,” Bouchez said. “I don’t think Edwin would have judged anyone on where they were from or anything else.”

Jackson was killed when a Ford F-150 struck him and his Uber driver on the side of the highway.

State Police identified the suspect as Manuel Orrego-Savala, a Guatemalan citizen who is in the country illegally and was deported twice in the past 10 years. Orrego-Savala’s blood alcohol level was allegedly three times the legal limit.

Trump tweeted Monday morning that it was “disgraceful” that Jackson was killed by “a person illegally in our country,” and called for Democrats to “get tough” on border security.

Rep. Todd Rokita (R-Ind.) also responded to the incident with a call for tougher border security.

“We must … Guarantee this never happens again by building a wall, ending sanctuary cities, and stopping illegal immigration once and for all,” Rokita said in a statement, according to CBS.
