Sandy Hook mother: NRA spokeswoman doesn’t care about brown or black mothers
The mother of a child killed during the Sandy Hook massacre lashed out at National Rifle Association (NRA) spokeswoman Dana Loesch for saying the media loves mass shootings, calling it “the most offensive thing” Loesch has ever said.
During a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Thursday, Loesch accused the media of loving mass shootings for the boost in ratings they get.
“I’ll say it really slowly so all the people on the platform in the back can hear me loud and clear: Many in legacy media love mass shootings,” Loesch said, directing her comments to reporters. “You guys love it. I’m not saying that you love the tragedy, but I am saying that you love the ratings. Crying white mothers are ratings gold to you and many in the legacy media in the back.”
{mosads}Nelba Márquez-Greene’s six-year-old daughter was one of 20 children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in 2012. Márquez-Greene took to social media to condemn Loesch’s comments.
“This is the most offensive thing I have ever heard this person say,” Márquez-Greene said. “I am … without words at this. It is a dark day in America.”

Márquez-Greene went on to say that Loesch’s comment about “crying white mothers” was “maybe the most offensive thing after pretending to give a damn about black and brown mothers either … they’re going to try to divide us. This is where we must be brave.”

In Loesch’s speech, she blasted CNN for hosting a town hall after a deadly mass shooting at a Florida high school.
“There are thousands of grieving black mothers in Chicago every weekend and you don’t see town halls for them. Where’s the CNN town hall for Chicago? Where’s the CNN town hall for sanctuary cities?” Loesch said.
Márquez-Greene has spoken out against gun violence, telling Congress that they were to blame for the deadly shooting in Las Vegas that killed 58 people since they didn’t take action.
