Publisher moves up release of former CIA chief Hayden’s book

Penguin Random House is moving up the release date of former CIA Director Michael Hayden’s upcoming book, amid heightened interest in the investigation into Russian efforts to meddle in U.S. elections. 

Hayden’s book, “The Assault on Intelligence: American National Security in an Age of Lies,” is set for release on May 1, according to Politico. 

The book focuses on current threats to U.S. intelligence, including President Trump’s own attacks on intelligence agencies and his skepticism of their assessment that Russia sought to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

Flatiron books similarly announced earlier this month that it would move up the release date of former FBI Director James Comey’s memoir to April 17.

The decision to move up the release date of Hayden’s book came days after special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russia’s role in the 2016 election, unsealed indictments against 13 Russian nationals and three Russian companies for their role in a plot of sow chaos and deepen political divisions in the U.S. during the presidential race.

Top U.S. intelligence officials also warned this month that Russia is poised to similarly meddle in the 2018 midterm elections.

Hayden, a retired Air Force general, previously served as the Director of National Intelligence under former President George W. Bush and the director of the CIA under former President Obama.
