Students protest gun violence outside Trump International Hotel in New York

Students on Wednesday protested gun violence outside of Trump International Hotel in New York City.

Students held signs and chanted, “Hey, Hey, NRA, how many kids did you kill today?” ABC News reported.

The demonstrations came as students across the country walked out of their schools on Wednesday to protest gun violence and call for change.

{mosads}Gun control has become a central policy issue in the country since a gunman opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., last month, killing 17 people.

Students have been leading the charge for gun control in recent weeks, rallying lawmakers and demanding they pass new gun laws to keep schools safe.

Students have also specifically targeted the National Rifle Association (NRA), calling out lawmakers who accept money from the organization.

The NRA countered calls for new gun control legislation Wednesday, tweeting: “I’ll control my own guns, thank you.”

Students on Wednesday also showed up to the White House, where they turned their backs and observed 17 minutes of silence to remember the 17 people killed in the Florida school shooting.
