New York City has launched an investigation into properties owned by Kushner Cos. after a report that the company regularly filed false paperwork with the city, The Associated Press reported Wednesday.
The Department of Buildings is investigating more a dozen Kushner Cos. properties after the AP reported that the company had regularly filed false paperwork about rent-regulated tenants in its properties.
The company filed documents with the city that stated it didn’t have any rent-regulated tenants in its building, while hundreds of those tenants lived in Kushner Cos. properties across the city.

The false paperwork was filed while White House adviser Jared Kushner was running the company. He left Kushner Cos. to join the Trump administration last year.
The company also bought apartment buildings in Queens before pushing out residents and raising the rent at the apartments, despite those tenants being protected by rules blocking the company from doing so.
Kushner Cos. did not immediately return the AP’s request for comment about the city’s investigation.
The company said in a statement at the time of the AP’s initial report that if there are “mistakes or violations” in its paperwork, “corrective action is taken immediately.”
Kushner Cos. placed responsibility for the paperwork on third parties that put together the documents, that are then examined by an independent counsel.
“Kushner would never deny any tenant their due-process rights,” the company told the AP.
