Protesters taking part in the anti-gun violence march this weekend in Orlando plan to march to Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) downtown office, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
More than 10,000 people are expected to take part in the city’s “March for Our Lives” event.
Protesters in Orlando also plan to march to the Pulse nightclub, where a gunman opened fire in 2016 in one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.
Rubio last month appeared at a CNN town hall on gun violence with students who survived the Parkland, Fla. shooting, where he was confronted over past comments.
During the event, he faced boos from the crowd and promised he would work on legislation to set a minimum age for gun purchases and improve gun background checks.
{mosads}The Orlando march — which was organized by high school and college students in the area — is one of many marches taking place in cities across the country this weekend to protest gun violence and demand change.
The “March for Our Lives” event in Washington, D.C., is expected to draw several hundred thousand people.
The marches come more than a month after a gunman opened fire at the Parkland school, killing 17 people.
Since the shooting, students have been leading the charge on gun control, demanding that lawmakers take action to keep their schools safe.
Lawmakers have been discussing new measures aiming to do just that.
Earlier this month, Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) signed into law measures imposing new restrictions on gun purchases in the state.
The bill raised the minimum age for purchasing firearms from 18 to 21 and imposed a three-day waiting period for most purchases of long guns.
The measure also allows certain trained school employees to carry concealed handguns on school campuses and creates new mental health programs for schools.
