Students demanding gun control finish march to Ryan’s hometown
A group of Wisconsin students demanding gun control finished a 50-mile march to Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) hometown on Wednesday.
About 40 students — who began their march from Madison to Janesville this past weekend — arrived at their destination at about noon, Wisconsin Public Radio reported.
When they arrived, the group held a rally, which reportedly drew about 200 people.
{mosads}The students who participated in the march, called March for Our Lives: 50 Miles More, want to ban military-style weapons and raise the minimum age to purchase guns to 21, among other demands.
During the march, the students slept in schools and were accompanied by adult volunteers. They also carried signs and played music as they marched.
The march came after hundreds of thousands of people over the weekend marched in cities across the country to protest gun violence and demand action on gun control.
Students who survived the shooting last month at a high school in Parkland, Fla., have become vocal advocates for gun control, demanding that lawmakers pass new gun laws.
During the March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C., students warned lawmakers that they would be voted out of office if they didn’t take action.
