A survivor of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting wore an orange jumpsuit during a day of school walkouts across the country on Friday, saying she did it because “our schools are looking more like prisons.”
Emma González has become an outspoken gun control activist since the Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 people dead.
On Friday, González recycled an old Halloween costume inspired by the Netflix television show “Orange Is the New Black” (OITNB), which is set in prison.
{mosads} “This prisoner jumpsuit was my Halloween costume 2 years ago (OITNB) but I wore it today because our schools are looking more like prisons and bomb shelters and less like the learning institutes our parents had the privilege of enjoying,” González tweeted.

González, who was walking out in New York instead of Parkland, said orange is also the color for gun violence survivors.
“We wear it today in solidarity of one another,” González tweeted.
Student are protesting gun violence across the country on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting.
A similar walkout was held last month before the “March for Our Lives” event organized by González and her classmates.
