Waffle House shooting hero raises more than $183K for victims’ families

James Shaw Jr., the man hailed a hero after wrestling a gun away from a man in a Tennessee Waffle House, has raised more than $183,000 for the victims.

Shaw, 29, originally set up a GoFundMe page to raise a goal of $15,000 for the victim’s families.

However, that the site has collected over $183,000 by Saturday.

Shaw sustained a gunshot wound and burns when he grabbed the assault-style rifle away from a gunman who opened fire at the restaurant last week.

Four people were killed during the attack and three were wounded.

Shaw said he didn’t consider himself a hero, “just a regular guy.”

A similar GoFundMe account was set up for Shaw and his daughter by reporter Yashar Ali.

“James Shaw Jr. put his life on the line when he took on the gunman who killed four people at a Nashville area Waffle House. Since that horrific shooting, he has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the victims and shown a level of humility that has inspired many of us,” Ali wrote.

As of Saturday, it has raised over $194,000 for Shaw.

Waffle House management announced that all proceeds gathered at the Antioch restaurant where the deadly shooting took place over the next month will go to the victims’ families.

Police in Nashville took suspected gunman Travis Reinking into custody Monday after a manhunt that lasted more than 24 hours.

He has been charged with four counts of criminal homicide, four counts of attempted murder and one count of unlawful possession of a gun in the commission of a violent felony.
