Florida law enforcement on Tuesday released dramatic body cam footage of officers responding to gunshots last Friday at President Trump’s Miami resort.
Gunshots are heard in the footage, and police are shown entering the resort’s lobby.
{mosads}The suspect, who was identified as Jonathan Oddi, was shot in the leg and sent to a local hospital.
No officers were shot in the exchange of fire, but one officer was injured in the encounter and sustained “broken bones,” according to a spokesman.
Police said Oddi was yelling anti-Trump rhetoric in the lobby and pulled the building’s fire alarm before exchanging gunfire with police. Oddi’s rhetoric is not heard in the video released Tuesday.
“As he did that, he waited for our police officers. He did begin to shoot inside the lobby, which prompted calls and curiosity from some of the people in the lobby. They were met with an individual with a handgun, who pointed it at them and proceeded to fire it into the roof and chandeliers of the hotel … He waited for our police officers in the front lobby to engage them,” Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez told the Sun-Sentinel.
Secret Service and FBI have collaborated with local law enforcement on investigating the incident, which is currently being treated as a state crime rather than a federal crime.
