Witnesses said Seaman threw a basketball at the suspected shooter and then tackled him, according to The Associated Press.
Authorities took the suspected gunman into custody shortly after the incident on Friday, but have not yet released his name.
Seaman’s brother told The Indianapolis Star that the teacher was shot three times and had to undergo surgery.
Student Ella Whistler was the only other person shot and is in critical but stable condition, her family said in a statement, according to AP.
President Trump praised Seaman in a tweet Saturday, thanking him “for his heroic act in saving so many precious young lives.”
