Minneapolis police on Sunday released body camera footage showing the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old black man by police officers last month.
The video shows officers Justin Schmidt and Ryan Kelly arriving at the scene after receiving a report that a person was firing a gun into the air. Upon arrival, the footage shows a man, Thurman Blevins, sitting on the curb near a woman with a stroller.
As the officers approach, one of them says Blevins has “got a gun” and orders him to put his hands up. A stabilized version of the video shows shows what appears to be a gun in Blevins’s pants pocket.

Blevins runs from the officers, who chase him on foot. The police can be heard telling him to stop, while Blevins tells them not to shoot.
The pursuit lasts less than a minute before the officers shoot Blevins.
An autopsy report says Blevins died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Both Schmidt and Kelly have been placed on paid administrative leave. The Blevins family has called for the officers to face criminal charges, according to The Associated Press.
The Minneapolis Police Department released three versions of the video on Sunday: one from Schmidt’s body camera, one from Kelly’s and a third “stabilized and analyzed” video that features footage from both cameras.
Redacted personnel files released by the police department show that Schmidt and Kelly have faced complaints in the past. Two complaints against Schmidt were closed without discipline and a third one remains open. Schmidt has had five complaints; all have been dismissed without disciplinary action taken against him.
