A former aide to Hillary Clinton slammed President Trump on Twitter on Wednesday after he revoked former CIA Director John Brennan’s security clearance.
“Trump just revoked former CIA Director John Brennan’s security clearance,” Philippe Reines said in a tweet. “What a vindictive little bitch.”
Shortly before Reine’s remarks on Twitter, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders read Trump’s statement announcing the move during a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon.
“As the head of the executive branch and the commander in chief,” Trump’s statement read, “I have a unique constitutional responsibility to protect the nation’s classified information, including by controlling access to it.”
{mosads}The move came just one day after Brennan, who has long been critical Trump throughout much of his presidency, ripped Trump on Twitter in response to his tweet calling former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman a “dog.”
“It’s astounding how often you fail to live up to minimum standards of decency, civility, & probity,” Brennan said in a tweet. “Seems like you will never understand what it means to be president, nor what it takes to be a good, decent, & honest person. So disheartening, so dangerous for our Nation.”
The president also said he is still reviewing several other former intelligence officials’ access to classified information, including former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI Director James Comey, former National Security Agency Director Michael Hayden, former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, among others.
Each of those individuals also has a history of making critical statements in the past.
