A GoFundMe page created on behalf of Christine Blasey Ford has raised more than $200,000 since her testimony began Thursday in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The fundraiser has now raised more than $380,000 in total, up from around $175,000 when the hearing began at 10 a.m., a spokesman for GoFundMe told The New York Times.
{mosads}Donations to the fundraiser were apparently spurred by Ford’s mention of GoFundMe pages during her testimony.
Ford, who testified for several hours Thursday, brought up the crowdsourced fundraisers when she was asked who paid for a polygraph test she took regarding sexual assault accusations she has made against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
“I’m aware that there’s been several GoFundMe sites,” Ford told Rachel Mitchell, the prosecutor hired by Republican senators to question Ford during the hearing. “I haven’t had a chance to figure out how to manage those because I’ve never had one.”
According to the GoFundMe page, the money raised will go directly to Ford and her family.
“She is receiving serious threats against her and has had to engage a security force to protect her family. This is all really expensive and she needs our help. We need to protect the voices of brave people who speak out – especially when they are part of our community,” the fundraiser page states.
The fundraiser is one of multiple GoFundMe accounts that have been set up to support Ford, who has reportedly faced death threats since publicly accusing Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her while they were high school students in the 1980s.
Ford and Kavanaugh testified separately Thursday in front of the Judiciary Committee, with Ford detailing the alleged assault and Kavanaugh unequivocally denying it happened.
