Cinton knocks Trump while rallying Dems: ‘The president degrades the rule of law’

Hillary Clinton on Tuesday blasted her 2016 White House rival, President Trump, while seeking to rally Democrats in the final weeks before the November midterm elections.

“Our democracy is in crisis. The president degrades the rule of law, spreads corruption, and discredits truth. Over the next three weeks, we all have a chance to turn back the tide,” Clinton wrote in a series of tweets urging followers to register to vote and get involved in voter turnout efforts in their areas.

The 2016 Democratic presidential nominee has often exchanged criticisms with Trump during his presidency.

{mosads}Clinton wrote in a new afterward for her book, “What Happened,” published in The Atlantic last month that “our democratic institutions and traditions are under siege” and that Trump had undermined the “national unity that makes democracy possible.”

Trump, meanwhile, has also repeatedly attacked Clinton since the 2016 election, frequently claiming that the FBI and Justice Department should investigate Clinton rather than possible collusion between his campaign and Russia during the election.

Clinton’s comments Tuesday also come after she said last week that “civility can start again” in the United States only if Democrats win back the House or the Senate in next month’s midterms.

Clinton said “you cannot be civil with” the Republican Party because it “wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about.”

She faced criticism from some over her remarks, including North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D), who is running for reelection in a state won by Trump in 2016.
