Biden jokes about Obama memes: ‘Barack did the first friendship bracelet, not me’

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Monday joked about the viral memes about his friendship with former President Obama.

Biden attended a campaign rally in support of Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum’s (D) gubernatorial bid and spoke about the “bromance” memes that have continued even after he and Obama left office.

“All those memes? All those memes are basically true,” Biden said, to cheers from the crowd. “Except I want to make it clear: Barack did the first friendship bracelet, not me.”

{mosads}Supporters of Obama and Biden started the “bromance” jokes on social media during Obama’s presidency, but the two have regularly referenced them in their own social media posts, particularly on each other’s birthdays.

The first appearance of the friendship bracelet came in a 2016 video in which Obama listed the craft as one of several things that are “harder than registering to vote.”

Biden then shared a photo of two bracelets with the names “Joe” and “Barack” for Obama’s 55th birthday.

The former vice president is making a number of stops in Florida this week to help boost Democratic candidates ahead of midterms. Gillum is in a contentious battle with former GOP Rep. Ron DeSantis in the closely watched race.
