Beto O’Rourke: George H.W. Bush will be remembered for his leadership, decency and kindness

Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) offered praise for the late former President George H.W. Bush after his death, honoring him for putting country above party.

{mosads}Bush died late Friday, sparking an outpouring of praise from political figures honoring the 41st president.

O’Rourke said Bush, a fellow Texan, “will be missed and long remembered for his leadership, his decency & his essential kindness.”

He added that Bush “made public service about country, and America’s responsibility in the world, less about party.”

Praise for the late president has rippled out across the political landscape since his son, former President George W. Bush, announced his death.

Bill Clinton, who defeated George H.W. Bush in the 1992 presidential election, said he was “profoundly grateful” for the post-presidency friendship the two men formed, and added that few will ever match his service to his nation.

President Trump lauded Bush’s “essential authenticity, disarming wit, and unwavering commitment to faith, family, and country” as the White House lowered its flag to half-staff to honor the 41st president.

George W. Bush mourned the loss of “a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for.”
